Bulgaria – A Choir Tour Proposal

Bulgaria is renowned for its rich musical heritage. In this one-of-a-kind choir tour, we discover the magnificent singing and instrumental traditions of Bulgaria, alongside its folklore, natural landscapes, wine, and dance. We will journey through mountainous regions and visit authentic villages to meet “real Bulgarian folklore” before it fades away. Each day features an encounter with a local ensemble showcasing diverse styles: Bulgarian choir singing, the “Bistritsa Babi” (Grandmothers) tradition of throat singing—known as “The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices”—male and female ensembles, polyphonic Macedonian singing, and the unique irregular rhythms of the Sofia region.

This proposal is uniquely crafted by three experts in their fields: Uri Hartman, long-time producer at the Israeli Opera; Asen Marinov, one of Bulgaria’s leading guitarists and leader of a world-music ethnic ensemble; and Dr. Zeev Ben-Arie, a Balkan expert and author of The Beauty of the Rose: Cultural and Spiritual Journeys in Bulgaria. In addition to the music, we will explore nature through attractions such as cable cars and open-air hot springs, accompanied by high-level professional guiding.
