Korçë

Korçë is a large city on a fertile plain in eastern Albania, not far from Lakes Ohrid and Prespa. It was the largest city in Albania at the end of the 19th century. During and shortly after World War I, Korçë was held by the French, who influenced its architecture, and it is therefore called the Paris of Albania. The first schools in Albania were founded in Korçë.

The city is an important commercial and agricultural center, with a large Orthodox Christian community. Today, about eighty thousand people live there. It is worth seeing the Museum of Medieval Art, which houses an impressive collection of icons collected from the Christian centers that were in the area, such as Voskopoja, as well as a modern and architecturally interesting church located in the city center, which is currently the largest church in Albania.
